Keys of Hope pilot project: First audition day held in Lomé

A new chapter began today for Keys of Hope in Lomé, Togo. Following the agreement signed on April 10, 2026, between RefugeRoot Foundation of Canada and NGO Maison Bethanie, the first audition session of the pilot project took place today, April 11, at 3:00 PM GMT. This first field activity marks an important step in the launch of a six-month music education initiative designed to support vulnerable children and youth through structured learning in music theory, piano, and flute.

Led by RefugeRoot team members Klaus and René, the audition session welcomed 22 children. Throughout the afternoon, the team met with each child to observe their interest, motivation, and potential as part of the first selection and orientation phase of the program.

More than a music activity, Keys of Hope is built as a protective and educational space. The project was designed to encourage discipline, creativity, self-confidence, and personal growth, while offering participants a respectful and supportive environment in which they can discover their abilities and imagine new possibilities for their future.

The pilot phase is being implemented at RefugeRoot’s training centre in Adidogomé Lapampa. Under the partnership framework, RefugeRoot leads the project’s general, pedagogical, and administrative coordination, while Maison Bethanie supports the identification of beneficiaries and their regular participation. The collaboration is guided by shared principles of dignity, safety, privacy, and child protection in all project-related communications and activities.

Today’s audition session was both encouraging and moving. It offered a first glimpse of the enthusiasm, attention, and promise that the children bring to Keys of Hope. RefugeRoot is grateful to Klaus and René for leading this important first day on the ground, and to Maison Bethanie for its partnership and trust.

As the pilot phase moves forward, RefugeRoot looks ahead with hope and commitment, believing once again that education, guidance, and artistic expression can become powerful tools for transformation.
