We are RefugeRoot

Where It All Began

RefugeRoot began with a simple Christian conviction: compassion should become practical action.

Moved by the challenges facing vulnerable children, widowed mothers, and families experiencing hardship, that conviction grew into a shared mission carried forward by volunteers, local communities, and partners. RefugeRoot seeks to go beyond short-term assistance by supporting practical solutions that protect dignity, strengthen families, and create opportunities that can last.

Who We Are

RefugeRoot is a Canadian Christian nonprofit working alongside communities in Benin and Togo. Our work focuses particularly on vulnerable children and widowed mothers while addressing the conditions that affect their well-being, including safe shelter, education, food security, and dignified livelihoods.

Guided by the love of Christ, we seek to serve with compassion, mercy, humility, integrity, and faithful stewardship. We serve people of every background and belief, without discrimination, working with volunteers and local partners to develop programs that are responsible, measurable, and rooted in community priorities.

How We Work

  • We listen first, allowing local voices and experiences to shape our response.
  • We work together with communities, volunteers, churches, and trusted local partners.
  • We plan for lasting change, supporting solutions that communities can sustain.
  • We serve with accountability, communicating progress, challenges, and the responsible use of resources.
